Mmm! Giraffe!

I'm sorry my entries have been becoming short and meaningless as of late, but this is too interesting to me at the moment to not post.

The Old Testament, in the book of Leviticus, clearly outlines rules behind what you can and cannot eat:

Good To Eat

cows
goats
sheep
llamas
giraffes
bison
buffalos
deer
wildebeest
antelope
every kind of fish except sharks (including poisonous ones apparently)
fowls that aren't listed as bad to eat
locusts
beetles
grasshoppers

Bad To Eat

camels
hares
pigs
shrimp
shellfish
sharks
eagles
ostriches
vultures
ravens
owls
swans
pelicans
storks
bats (listed as a sort of fowl)
insects that aren't locusts, beetles, or grasshoppers
weasels
ferrets
mice
tortoises
lizards
chameleons (listed seperately from lizards)
snails (the French are clearly unclean)
moles

Correct me if I'm wrong on any of those, since I'm drawing from generalizations for a lot of them. Either way, quite amusing.

In me-news, I've been sick, and I've got a lot of work to do. Bah. I'm sleeping in tomorrow. But, prior to my current condition, I went to Las Vegas and went to see a tople... *ahem* I mean, I went to see Paul McCartney with my family, and he provided us all with good, wholesome, classic rock and roll. Good fun.

Mario gives into peer pressure and goes *puff*.

essentially the reason for not allowing people to eat certain animals was because back then if they weren't cooked properly, you could get a nasty disease and die. Yay for the smart dead people (and God) who wrote that! ^.^

Oh, and do you have any pics of that tople... *ahem* i mean Paul McCartney performance? I wouldn't mind seeing any... -.^

Good point about the food rules. Pigs are a big one in terms of what used to not be good to eat, but we've found a way to purify since.

I'm interested. How literally do you interpret Leviticus? After a bit of a skim on my part, I found that it's wildly inapplicable to modern times, and even evil-sounding at parts. Like, promoting exile for gay sex, bestiality, and incest seems a bit extreme to me. I know many Christians no longer follow Leviticus, but how about you?

(edit: exile, not death penalty... big difference o_O)

Wait... no, I was right both times. Leviticus 18 says exile, and Leviticus 20 says death.

(funny how you're so into religion but you don't believe in it....it's a bit disconcerting actually...)

Re: XP

It's disconcerting? o_O How?

Some passages in question include:

18:22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

18:23 Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion.

18:24 Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you:

...

18:29 For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls that commit them shall be cut off from among their people.

...

20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

...

20:16 And if a woman approach unto any beast, and lie down thereto, thou shalt kill the woman, and the beast: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

20:17 And if a man shall take his sister, his father's daughter, or his mother's daughter, and see her nakedness, and she see his nakedness; it is a wicked thing; and they shall be cut off in the sight of their people: he hath uncovered his sister's nakedness; he shall bear his iniquity.

Bob

Leviticus is apart of the Old Covenant, most Christians are aware that there is a New Covenant.
